Mike McCurdy

Co-Founder

Mike McCurdy is a petroleum engineer and entrepreneur with more than a decade of experience spanning production, completions, and reservoir engineering—along with a proven track record in building and scaling successful energy service companies across the Permian Basin. Born in Florida and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Mike earned his B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Texas Tech University in 2012. He began his career with Occidental Petroleum (Oxy) in Houston as a Production Engineer, managing assets across West Texas. A year later, he transitioned to Oxy’s Well Servicing Team in Midland, gaining invaluable hands-on experience at the wellhead and developing a strong operational foundation in workovers and field operations. In 2014, Mike joined Nadel and Gussman as a Completions Engineer, overseeing horizontal completions in the Wolfcamp and Bone Spring formations across southeastern New Mexico. Following the company’s sale to BC Operating in 2015, he advanced into a Reservoir Engineer role, conducting asset evaluations and property assessments until BC was acquired by Marathon Oil in 2017. Later that year, Mike founded Delaware Energy Services, identifying a critical need for produced water disposal infrastructure in southeastern New Mexico. Under his leadership, Delaware Energy grew into a robust network of seven deep Devonian saltwater disposal wells with supporting pipeline systems and state-of-the-art facilities—cementing its presence in the Delaware Basin. In 2023, Mike co-founded Moonshine Energy, initially focused on reclaiming high-BS&W lease crude. The company quickly evolved into a full-service oilfield operations provider, offering roustabout crews, hydrovac services, water and crude hauling, reclamation, marketing, and rentals. Today, Moonshine Energy operates a fleet of over 90 trucks and reclamation facilities across Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma, with continued growth throughout the Permian Basin. Mike’s leadership reflects a blend of engineering expertise, entrepreneurial drive, and a deep commitment to operational excellence and innovation in the energy sector.
